The biggest airline in Mexico, Aerovías de México, better known as Aeromexico, has just announced that it will be flying to Belize for the first time. During the upcoming tourist high season, Aeromexico will be offering two flights a week between Mexico City and Belize City.
Starting on November 17, 2018, and continuing every Saturday and Sunday until April 28, 2019, Aeromexico will be departing Mexico City at 8:30 AM and arriving at the Philip Goldson International Airport in Belize City at 10:30 AM. Return flights back to Mexico City will depart each Saturday and Sunday at 12:00 noon, arriving at 2:25 PM. Currently, only Tropic Air flies between Belize and Mexico with several weekly flights to Cancún.
Aeromexico’s decision to enter the red-hot Belizean tourism market came just a week after Canadian low-cost airline WestJet announced that it will be adding new flights to Belize for the third year in a row. Currently, WestJet flies to Belize five times a week from Calgary and Toronto throughout the high season. Starting this winter, WestJet will be adding one additional flight to Belize from Calgary and Toronto. Rival Air Canada, the eighth-largest airline in the world, currently flies to Belize five times a week from its hub in Toronto.
These airlines and others are busy adding new flights to Belize because the country has become a popular destination for weddings, honeymoons, family vacations, and adventure holidays. Far less crowded than other nearby countries, Belize is nearly entirely covered by pristine tropical rainforests, mountains, and jungle. Belize is home to a spectacular array of exotic birds and animals, including rare and endangered species such as the Jabiru stork, the black howler monkey, and the jaguar.
There are also numerous ancient Maya sites to visit on the mainland. Popular adventure activities include zip lining, horseback riding, cave tubing, rappelling, hiking, and visiting national parks.
Belize also has hundreds of islands along the Belize Barrier Reef, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most ecologically diverse marine environments on the planet. Popular activities on the reef include fishing, sailing, scuba diving, and snorkeling.
If you’re interested in visiting Belize, you should definitely consider staying at the Belize Boutique Resort and Spa. Located on a stunningly beautiful 1,000-acre property in the heart of the jungle just a few miles from the international airport, the resort is an oasis of tranquility and luxury.
