Congratulations! You’re planning a trip to Belize, a land of incredible natural beauty and super friendly people, all of whom speak English because English is the official language. Belize is the perfect place to relax, enjoy some exciting adventures, and enjoy a fabulous getaway vacation.
But what will you do during your time in Belize? There are lots to do and see, so we’ve compiled a few of our favorite ideas:
The Ancient Maya
Belize was the heartland of the ancient Maya civilization, one of the most advanced cultures that ever existed. The ancient Maya built enormous cities and palaces all across Belize, and these incredible buildings are still the tallest manmade structures in the country. You can wander across vast plazas or marvel at elaborately carved stelae that tell the bloody history of kings, wars, and dynasties.
The landscape of Belize is riddled with vast underground labyrinths just waiting to be explored. Some caves were used by ancient Maya priests to perform human sacrifices while other caves have rivers flowing through them, allowing people to float right through them (called “cave tubing”).
In Belize, wildlife is everywhere you look. In fact, you’re more likely to see a giant iguana or a curious tapir crossing the road than a car. Belize is home to exotic animals like crocodiles, black howler monkeys, and even jaguars.
Did you know that more than 600 species of birds have been recorded in Belize? They range the gamut from brightly colored toucans and parrots to tiny, iridescent hummingbirds. And, if you know where to look, you might even spot a rare ocellated turkey dashing through the jungle undergrowth or an enormous harpy eagle soaring high above the canopy.
The Belize Barrier Reef
Belize’s coral reef system is the second-largest in the world and home to a cornucopia of wildlife, including sharks, sea turtles, manatees, dolphins, manta rays, and, of course, huge schools of fish. The reef is an excellent place to enjoy activities like fishing, sailing, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
Belize is the ideal place to enjoy outdoor adventures like floating down a jungle river on an inner tube, sailing through the jungle canopy on a zip line, hiking, horseback riding, and rock climbing.
Whether you’re planning a family vacation, wedding anniversary, solo adventure, romantic honeymoon, yoga retreat, fishing or diving adventure, family get-together, or group travel, the Belize Boutique Resort and Spa will ensure that you have a great time.
