Tropic Air Belize and COPA Airlines Announce New Agreement

Belize's Tropic Air and COPA Airlines Announce New Agreement

Belize's Tropic Air and Panama's COPA Airlines announced a new interline agreement between the two airlines that will help facilitate travel connections between Central and South America and Belize. The new interline agreement will allow incoming COPA Airlines passengers to continue to their final destination in Belize on a Tropic Air flight without having to purchase separate tickets or re-check their luggage.

According to Manuel Heredia, the Belizean Minister of Tourism, tourists from Central and South America are vital to the local economy because they visit Belize during the "off" season when the country experiences a decrease in visitor numbers from Canada and the United States. Currently, although the volume of visitors from Central and South America is less than those from North America, the new interline agreement between COPA Airlines and Tropic Air is likely to increase trade and tourism from neighboring countries.

John Greiff III, the president of Tropic Air, said that the interline agreement has been in the works for more than two years. Greif stated that the new agreement will help Belizean business owners to expand their reach to more destinations across Central and South America and access Spanish and Portuguese-speaking customers.

Tropic Air was founded in Belize in 1979 by John Grief III with just a single airplane. Today, Tropic Air operates Belize flights to a dozen airports across the country, including the John Greif II Airport in San Pedro, as well as popular destinations in Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico.

COPA Airlines, or Compañía Panameña de Aviación, was founded in 1947 and is the national carrier of Panama. It currently serves 74 destinations across South America, Central America, and the United States. COPA Airlines is also a member of the Star Alliance that includes Air Canada, Avianca Airlines, and United Airlines, all of which currently fly to Belize.

"We warmly welcome this new interline agreement between COPA Airlines and Tropic Air," said Melanie Nicholson, the general manager of the Belize Boutique Resort and Spa. "We look forward to hosting more visitors from across Central and South America and sharing with them the beauty and wonder of Belize."

The Belize Boutique Resort and Spa is located on a privately owned 1,000-acre property in the north of the country thirty miles from the international airport. The resort offers a full complement of Belize spa treatments and Belize vacation packages.
